On August 28th 2011, Hurricane Irene made landfall in New England and shut down power for most of Southeastern New England through September 1st. Miniter Managers met on August 25th to review the Disaster Recovery/Business Interruption plan and agreed to implement the plan if required. The Business Interruption plan was invoked at 4:30 a.m. on Monday Aug 29th after touring the Miniter facilities. The Business Interruption plan was invoked due to loss of electrical power with only minor damage to Miniter facilities.
T1 data service was interrupted due to the storm which brought down data and phone communication to the Miniter facilities. Outbound calls to users of the Miniter e-commerce website were made during the morning of August 29th. T1 service was restored at 4:00 p.m. on August 29th at which time Miniter data and phone systems were restored. The Norwell MA area continued to experience a power outage until late Wednesday, September 1st, however Miniter was up and operational with only 7 hours of downtime.
Management plans are currently being reviewed to achieve a zero hour downtime should a catastrophic event move through the Norwell area in the future.
